1. Speeding Up a Sluggish PC (Startup Apps)
If your computer drags every time you turn it on, too many programs are launching automatically in the background.
- Press
Ctrl + Shift + Escto open the Task Manager. - Click on the Startup tab (gauge/meter icon on Windows 10/11).
- Right-click apps you don't need running immediately upon boot and select Disable.
2. Fixing Glitchy Web Pages (Clear Browser Cache)
If sites look broken or won't load right, your browser's saved cache files might be corrupted.
- With your browser open, press
Ctrl + Shift + Delete. - Select "Cached images and files" and hit Clear Data.
3. Fixing Drops in Wi-Fi or Internet Connection
Before calling your internet provider, try resetting your local network stack to flush out glitchy IP configurations.
- Type
cmdin your Windows search bar, right-click Command Prompt, and choose Run as administrator. - Type
ipconfig /flushdnsand press Enter. - Type
netsh int ip resetand press Enter, then restart your PC.
4. Fixing No Sound / Audio Issues
Audio suddenly stopped working? Windows often defaults to the wrong output device after an update.
- Click the speaker icon in your bottom-right taskbar and check the active playback device selection dropdown.
- Right-click the speaker icon, choose Sound settings, and run the built-in Troubleshoot common sound issues tool.
5. Reclaiming Space from Temporary System Files
Windows builds up gigabytes of old update files and logs over time.
- Press
Windows Key + R, typecleanmgr, and press Enter. - Select your main drive (C:), check boxes for temporary files and previous Windows installations, then click Clean up system files.
